What Is Somatic Ecotherapy?

  • Mindfullness

Mindfulness is the foundational principle of Somatic Ecotherapy. It is the practice of cultivating a level of awareness and allowing physical sensations in the body, urges, thoughts, emotions, impulses, etc. to be as they are without judging them or trying to change them.

The purpose of mindfulness is to cultivate a compassionate relationship towards all our experiences, within the body, which enables conditions for transformative growth.

  • Somatic

The Latin origin of the word Soma is body. Somatic mindfulness is awareness and allowing of all that the human body is experiencing. By cultivating this practice, experiences such as grief, trauma, sadness, pain, fear, anxiety, and a wide range of emotions can begin to move and change instead of remaining stuck in the body and continuing to inform repetitive, painful, limiting, exhausting, and reactive narratives and habits.

  • Ecotherapy

“Eco” comes from the Greek word oikos, meaning home. “Therapy” means to heal. Ecotherapy is, at its core, healing the home. This healing happens through a shared relationship with nature, where a guide or therapist supports the client in connecting and interacting with the natural world. The real magic happens as the client connects with nature, reflecting and allowing inner truths to grow naturally and to be revealed.
